Writer's Journal 6: Anxiety

As someone who naturally experiences anxiety during any life influencing changes, it is easy to recognize the effects of such a familiar feeling. I personally already struggle with it pretty regularly and am thankful to be able to remain high functioning even when dealing with active episodes.

My biggest anxiety with extending my writing processes is the fear of my perfectionism causing me to never feel like the product is finished. For me, my biggest advantage to working on a linear path is that I know where the finish line lies. At the end of my piece of writing I will proof read and edit anything misspelled or rewrite weaker sections of my text in order to finalize my piece. I know that by creating drafts and revisions my writing will only grow stronger but I will have to adjust to looking at my writing more subjectively.

I also am a little nervous because I am a mother of two toddlers who is homeschooling during the day and in mama mode 25/8. I already push the boundaries and rules of time on a regular basis. Of course, anything that will further push those boundaries is always a little nerve wracking. Luckily, this is something that no matter how scary it is I always handle it with super hero grace. My secret formula? Copious amounts of coffee, nonstop working nap times, lunch dates with my laptop, and an overall lack of rest and relaxation.

I am very welcoming of the challenge despite my anxieties and already overbooked schedule. I believe that I thrive pushing my own limitations and seeing what works and what doesn't. Half of the fun is the aspects of what is unknown when first experimenting with new skills and techniques. Practicing mindfulness is an important process in it's own and will lead to natural integration of the habits of the mind. I am excited to see where this leads to in terms of development in my writing and personal growth. Regardless of the obstacles, I have made the pact to myself that I will set forth with my best foot forward and not stop until I succeed at what I am trying to achieve. I even made sure to practice these extended processes and habits of the mind on this assignment just to begin to get myself accustomed to them. Although I'm sure that there are particular situations that would make certain parts of the process exempt but for now to create good habits I will focus on every step until it begins to happen naturally.
