Writing is arguably one of the most impactful forms of communication in modern day, used all around the world. At first thought you may say that it would be language or oral communication but think about the cellphone in your pocket for example. You may even be reading this very narrative on your phone right now. Through the internet and accessibility, we have 24/7 written communication at our fingertips. Things in the likes of text messaging, emails, social media, and web pages have us more connected than civilization has ever experienced before. We also have the capability of using our phone as a tool or resource to gain knowledge or understanding in limitless ways. The significance of written communication is underrated and can be profound in both your professional and personal life.
The most significant literacy that I have worked on has been my blog on my business website for Box of Rayne. The website www.boxofrayne.com is currently under construction and will be up running in the next few weeks. Box of Rayne is a handmade homegrown spiritual goods and services business centered on creating a community of enlightened individuals and providing high vibrational goods and services that are for everyone's highest truths. My business was the cultivation of a lifelong dream and too much time on my hands during Covid. I built my entire website from the ground up using the building manager on www.web.com. I found that this particular site was the easiest to use on my laptop when creating my shop front, services and booking pages, and blog. I wanted to build my website myself because I wanted to be as involved with every step of the process as possible.
I decided to create my blog in hopes of drawing closer on the idea of connection, wisdom and community within my clientele. I used it as a platform to share my knowledge and ideas with a public audience and make everything I was teaching about easily accessible, meaning it was completely free to use and simple to understand. My first topics were topics that I had already studied on but felt as though there weren't many good free resources for beginners such as candle work, astral projection and turning daily life and routine into meaningful ritual.
Something that I had felt guided to do since starting my business was create this sort of learning index covering spiritual topics and practices. I wrote multiple blogs before launching my website so that there was already information preloaded onto it. I created a strict blog schedule that ebbed and flowed with the moon phases, releasing a new blog every full and new moon. The main goal of the blog was to convey knowledge to as many people as I could reach. I found having a blog made the possibilities infinite of where I could take it from there. I also took the time when creating my blog to touch upon questions or topics that were frequently brought up to me by my existing clientele. This is where deeper connection and community came in to play because they felt heard and also felt as though what I was doing was just for them, and in a way it was.
Personally, this literacy had a huge significance because I was able to achieve more than just financial gain through my business. Through creating this sense of community and connection I was actually able to speak to others more one on one about their own personal experiences and the ways in which they felt similar. I also had many people thank me for providing them with new knowledge or perspective on a topic that they felt they did not have enough information on. These sentiments were particularly rewarding because my greatest joy was being able to create for others what I did not have myself. It also was a sense of completion towards my goals for my own spiritual path to enlighten and awaken as many souls as I could touch, even if only through written word.
This literacy also played a significant role in a major shift between writing as a means of pleasure and writing as a means of profession. As a writer, the blog facilitated a safe space where I could experiment with my own unique writing style. I was able to explore how I felt most comfortable and organized when writing for an audience and get feedback from other creators/ writers in my community. It also gave me experience in adding multimodal elements to my writing by inserting logos, relevant photos, and links to other pages that acted as a source for my writing or related content to the topic being written about.
Lastly, it was my first experience dipping my feet in the water of writing professionally. Because it was for my business I took great care as to the standards of work that was published. I followed a strict criteria that ensured each blog post was organized and easily understandable while still giving a plethora of information to the reader in a way that did not feel overwhelming. This was especially important because as a part of my own spiritual journey goals I needed the technicality of my pieces on par in order to effectively reach as many people as possible. The entire experience of having my blog still continues to help me grow as a writer as I write two blogs a month and each one is always stronger than the previous.
Overall, I can not think of another literacy that felt so fulfilling on a personal and professional level. From accomplishing my goals to mastering specific techniques and skills, writing has been a useful tool in the steps towards achieving my destiny. I have been able to use my blog as a way of communicating with people I otherwise would have never had the interaction with, and help so many young spiritualists with obtaining accessible knowledge to further awaken their own gifts.
